Sin Separates
In this verse, we see that all people have sinned, and that sin separates us from God. God is holy and there is no sin in Him, He is the opposite of sin, and therefore sin cannot be in His presence.
Isaiah 59:2 also states that our iniquities separate us from God.
In the infographic we see sin depicted as a very high wall that separates us from God. Every time you sin you lay more bricks on this wall and so the wall grows taller.
Sin in the original Greek translates to: To miss the mark.
There are many examples of sin on the bricks in the wall, but sin could be summed up in the following sentence: Sin is the intentional violation of one or more of God’s known laws. Our understanding of sin is very important because a lost sinner must realize and understand that he is lost before he will develop a need for a Savior.
The Wrong Way
of breaking down the wall of sin
Isaiah 53:6 says that we are all like sheep that have gone astray each in its own way. The wrong way to break this wall of sin down between the sinner and God is to do it in any other way but through the cross of Jesus Christ.
There are many people who realize their sins but then try to remove some of the bricks themselves by stopping a certain sin or to start going to church, reading the Bible, or seeking spiritual friends. These things are not wrong but becoming a ‘better’ person does not save you.
Many people have spiritual awakenings, a moment in their lives where they became very aware of God, of their sin, of hell, or whatever the case may be. This might be through a song, a church service, something they read, or something someone said, etc... Such an experience is also not wrong because God uses these things to call us to Him but having such an experience does not save you.
Many religious people believe that their sins are automatically forgiven as they grew up in Christian homes and are therefore Christians. This is not true. You are not bread if you grew up in a bakery, and neither are you a car if you grew up in a mechanic workshop. The same applies here, you are not a Christian because you grew up in a Christian home. Becoming a Christian is a choice each person must make.
The Right Way
of breaking down the wall of sin
1 John 1:9 says that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
The right way is the way of repentance. Every person must realize their sin and that they are lost and separated from God. With the realization of sin comes the desperate need for a Savior.
The ONLY WAY
Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
The way to break down the wall of sin between you and God is through the cross of Jesus Christ. He died on the cross for the sin of the world, His blood was shed to wash away our sins so that we can be made righteous before God. He is the Savior of the World.
Once the sinner has a realization of their sin and their need for deliverance the next step is to make the decision to surrender their life to God, to repent of their sin, and to be made new as Christ has made provision for you through the cross.
This is a choice that every person must make, it cannot be made for them and it cannot happen by accident or without one knowing. It is a personal and life-changing decision for everyone to make.

The moment a person bows down and confesses that they need a Savior and that Jesus is the only way and pray to God to forgive their sin, to wash them clean, and make them new. That is the moment the wall of sin will be destroyed. There is no separation from God any longer and we then have the privilege to know God and have a relationship with Him.
